Toone Elementary School offers an Extended School Day (ESD) program. This program is first offered to students who have been identified as being below the proficient level in reading and/or math or as needing extra reinforcement of various skills and TN Academic Standards. Several methods are used to determine students who would benefit from extended school day. Those methods are: Spring TCAP scores for grades 3-8, STAR Assessment for grades K-8, and teacher recommendation. If there are any remaining spots in the program, they are offered to all TES students. When the program is full, parents wishing to add their student to the waiting list can contact their child’s teacher.
Students attend ESD one or two days per week. The sessions take place from 3:05 to 5:35 each day. Students receive instruction in areas such as reading, math, science, technology, arts and physical activity. Virtual students wanting help with assignments are invited to bring their work on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00 in the TES cafeteria.
ESD usually begins in September and ends before TCAP testing in April. As a culminating activity, all students who attend at least 75% of their sessions are eligible for a celebration at the end of the school year.
